Candidate Profiles

Candidate:
Juan Batista
Profile:
I was born in the city of Santiago in the Dominican Republic, the younger of four, from a Catholic family. I traveled to the USA in 1987 and graduated from high school in 1990. I have worked many kinds of jobs including as a bread packer, as a machinery operator, at the airport, and in a printing company. A hobby of working with cars got me into another experience: how to make keys. I found this new experience so interesting that I became a professional locksmith. Today I work as locksmith for the Lee County School Districts. I am married to the same beautiful wife since 1991 with 3 beautiful gifts of God, our 3 daughters. I have been a member of St. Andrew Church for nearly 12 years. I usually go to the 1:30pm Mass in Spanish. To me, going to Mass means God’s work in me in which I respond, accomplishing in obedience what God asks me to do by rejoicing in His presence and living in my faith. I am a Minister of Holy Communion, bringing the Eucharist to those not able to go and receive, helping with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and being a member of the Ultreya ministry. I hope to experience the joy of helping others and doing God’s will to work in his vineyard whenever he calls me.

Candidate:
Lilly Cortes
Profile:
I’m Lilly Cortes, born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. I have two wonderful children, Jose and Lourdes. I have 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. I am bilingual. I graduated from New York University in 1988 with a BSW (went to school in my old age). I worked for the city of New York with the Administration of Children’s Services, as a child protective investigator. I retired Dec 2001. I have been a member of St. Andrew Church since I moved here in Aug 2008. Prior to that I had been active in Our of Lady of Refuge Church in Brooklyn, NY for over 20 years. While there I served in many ministries, including the church’s Parish Pastoral Council. Here, I regularly attend the Mass in Spanish at 1:30pm. Going to Mass means to me continued spiritual growth, being nurtured with Christ’s Body and Blood to continue this beautiful path that He has shown me. I am involved in the Funeral Mass Prep Ministry where I have worked with both the English and Spanish speaking. I also serve as a Minister of Holy Communion and am a member of the Cursillo Movement. I am willing to serve because I “know” there is work to be done for the betterment and unification of our church. Our Church is a church of inclusion.

Candidate:
Philip Ciancimino
Profile:
I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I am a first generation Italian; my parents were both from Sicily, Italy. I have 2 younger bothers. I speak fluent Italian and some Spanish. I currently own and operate an IT company called Convergent Systems Technologies of which I am celebrating my 15th year. I am married to my wife Laura of 25 years and have 3 children: Matthew, Gabriella and Philip. I have been a member of St Andrew Church for 25 years. I was married here by Father Arnold and all my kids have attended catechism classes, were baptized, received their first Holy Communion and Confirmation all at St Andrew Church. We regularly attend the 12:00pm Mass. Going to Mass for me is the renewal of my faith that I have in Christ, to be present for the holy sacrifice that took place for the atonement of my sins. It is the experience of Heaven and Earth reconciling one to the other in oneness with our Lord. I am currently involved in the youth music ministry. I am a member of the Adult Advisory Committee for Youth and am a Confirmation catechist. I am willing to serve on the Parish Pastoral Council because it’s the work of the Church and the Community of which my family and I are a part.
Candidate:
Madeline Davis
Profile:
I was born and baptized in Greensburg, PA in 1944. At the age of 8 my family moved to Oklahoma where we lived and where I graduated from high school. I am married and have 3 sons, and 5 grandchildren. My husband, Thomas, was in construction and we have lived in Texas, Arizona, Columbia (South American) and Virginia. We moved to Cape Coral in 1990. I have been a Real Estate agent here for 25 years. We have been a member of St. Andrew since 2011. As a rule we attend the 7:30am daily Mass and occasionally you will find us at the 9:00am Sunday Mass. The reason we attended daily mass is because it is the center of our lives, where we can truly receive the Body and Blood of our Lord. We receive such graces and peace when starting our day with him. It truly enriches our lives. Frequently during the celebration of the Mass I would ask God: “What can I do for you?” I never seemed to get the answer. Then one Sunday morning, after Mass, Fr. York asked me what I was doing for the church? So now I am part of the Funeral Mass preparation ministry here at St. Andrew. Once again I have been asked to step out in faith to serve. If you need me, here I am.
Candidate:
Alice DeClemente
Profile:
My husband, Michael, and I have married 41 years and have been members of St. Andrew Church since we moved from New York in Aug 1987. We raised our 3 sons, Todd, Nick, and Brett, here, all of whom live their lives of devotion to the One Holy and Apostolic Church. We have 2 granddaughters (Isabella and Gabriella) from Todd and his wife Kristen, and our son Brett and his wife Stephanie have a baby on the way, due in May. Our son Nick and his fiancé are getting married in Nov. I spent 12 years as a catechist of Religious Education here at St. Andrew Church. Additionally, I have been a Third Order Lay Carmelite since 1997 and presently am the director of our community for the last 3 years. Michael and I are both Ministers of Holy Communion (although in the last year, I have not served much because of injuries from a car accident). I’ve been an Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Goodwill Industries’ Community Support Services working with people with disabilities and disadvantages for 22 years. I love Our Lord more than anything and trust in His divine will. I’m devoted to the Blessed Virgin.
Candidate:
Alice DiFalco
Profile:
I was born in Lincoln Park, Michigan and moved to Florida in 1979. I was born and raised Catholic, was baptized as an infant, and attended Catholic grade school. I am the youngest of five and the only girl. Two of my brothers live in Florida and two in Michigan. I work in the medical billing field. I am attending college in pursuit of a degree in social work. I plan to specialize in geriatric social work, to which I feel called after taking care of both my parents. I am single and have no children. I have been a member of St Andrew Church for 4 years. I am a Minister of the Word, a Vincentian, and a member of the Welcoming Committee. Lately, I have been trying out various Sunday Mass times. I also attend daily Mass because I love it and because I need it. For me, Mass is a time to worship, to reflect, to receive our Lord, to learn, to grow, and to bond with fellow Parishioners. It is the most important part of my day. I served as an RCIA Sponsor in 2014 and after prayer and reflection, I feel I am being called to service on the PPC. I am enthusiastic, dedicated, and enjoy working with others. I love Saint Andrew Church; it is my home. And I consider all its members, Priests, and Staff as part of my family.
Candidate:
Larry Edwards
Profile:
I was born in Yonkers, New York into a Military Family. I was fortunate to grow up in places like Long Island, Honolulu, Washington DC and New Mexico. I have 3 brothers who like my parents and myself, all now reside in Florida. I worked in broadcasting and advertising, owning both my own radio stations and advertising agency. My wife Sue and I now own Willie T’s Restaurant and Bar in Key West. We occasionally go to New Mexico to visit our children and 10 grandchildren who live there. We have been attending St. Andrew Church almost every Sunday 9:00am Mass since June 2007. What we get out of Mass cannot be described in words, but attending is something we both cherish. I have served on Parish and Finance Councils as well as a member of a Bible group program in New Mexico. I feel blessed to be able to read at Mass here at St. Andrew. I feel that I may be able to offer something in the way of insight and experience to this effort. This faith community’s diverse needs and goals should be evaluated, considered and developed through a reverent and thoughtful process, the reward of which is a Parish that continues to flourish and grow in the years ahead.

My wife and I have been serving as Minister of Holy Communion for the past 5 years, and I for the sick, hospitalized, and homebound. I am willing to serve on the Parish Pastoral Council because my faith as a Catholic has taught me to be obedient and serve when the Lord calls.
Candidate:
Juan Carlos Tornavaca
Profile:
I was born in Hialeah, Florida from a Catholic family. Since I was 5 years old, I wanted to become an altar boy, following in the footsteps of my oldest brother, Omar. I was allowed by the priest to be an altar boy with my parents’ promise that I would continue my religious education and receive my first communion. I did and have been serving the Church since then. In 2007 my family moved to Cape Coral and became members of St. Andrew Church. I also became a member of the Spanish Youth group where I meet with other youth every Wednesday night at 7:00pm. I have also joined the Life Teen youth group. I serve as an altar server at the 1:30pm Mass once a month and enjoy every moment serving the Lord, which means EVERYTHING to me. On Feb 9 of this year I became a member of the Knights of Columbus. In the near future I would love to join missionary work helping people less fortunate than me and taking God's word to them. I pray that if this is the job God has prepared for me, to let me take it seriously and let me do it with love. Giving as much as I possibly can to help others get closer to God and learn and grow together as a family that we are.
