THE MAIN IDEA

This Christmas show is not a straight pageant of the Nativity story. Instead, the various groups will be presenting Nativity Lessons, things we can learn from the Christmas story and apply to our lives today. In other words, by paying attention to the story of the birth of Jesus, what might God be inviting us to do differently or in what ways can we grow closer to God by learning from the story of our Savior's birth?

Here are those lessons:
Lesson 1 - Say Yes to God
Lesson 2 - Make Room for Jesus
Lesson 3 - See the Glory of God Everywhere
Lesson 4 - Receive the Best Gift, Jesus the King

What do those mean? That's what you'll find out through our Exhibition!

THE FORMAT

St. Andrew's Religious Education is organized into four main programs: Loved, Called, Blessed, and Formed. Each program group will present a Nativity Lesson.

Lesson 1 - Loved
Lesson 2 - Called
Lesson 3 - Blessed
Lesson 4 - Formed

Each lesson has two parts:
Part 1 - Nativity Skit
Part 2 - Modern Application

For most groups, the younger class (for example, Blessed 1) will perform Part 1, the Nativity Skit, in which students will be silently acting the Christmas story while others read it directly from the Bible.

Then, the older classes (for example, Blessed 2 & 3) will provide Part 2, the Modern Application, which are various projects demonstrating how to apply the Nativity Lesson to our lives today. Our Modern Applications include two skits (from Loved and Called 2 for Lessons 1 and 2) as well as an image slideshow (Blessed 2 & 3 for Lesson 3) and even an original short film written and performed by Formed 2 (for Lesson 4).

THE SEATING

The audience will be invited to sit in the East Pews (the ones facing the main altar) as there will be a projection screen facing those pews so that the information and videos can be seen.

The children performing will all be seated in the North Pews (the music side) by class group. No parents or family should plan to sit with your children. (You will sign them out from their catechist after the show.)

THE SINGING

Community singing! To relieve pressure on the children and increase enjoyment for everyone, I'm asking all present to join in singing the songs that accompany the Exhibition. We will project the lyrics on the screen so everyone can follow along. Here are the songs we will be singing together:

Exhibition Theme Song: Joy to the World

Lesson 1 Song: O Come O Come Emmanuel

Lesson 2 Song: Away in a Manger

Lesson 3 Song: Angels We Have Heard On High

Lesson 4 Song: We Three Kings

If you have a chance, please practice these songs with your children so everyone can join in during our Community Singing!

THE READING

As mentioned above, the Nativity Skits (and two of the Modern Applications) involve narrators reading from the Ambo (the big podium with the microphone). So that everyone can best understand the story being told, we ask that all our narrators practice their parts... a lot! I have placed the Narrator Assignments below. If your child isn't sure if he or she is a narrator, check here. You can also download the scripts below as well.
