2020 Confirmation

PLEASE NOTE:

This webpage is addressed to the current Confirmation candidates preparing to receive the Sacrament in October 2020. If you need to register a high school youth to begin Confirmation preparation (for Confirmation in 2021) click here for information.

FOR MY 2020 CANDIDATE FAMILIES:

AN APOLOGY AND A REASSURANCE

Please forgive me for the lack of communication. As this pandemic has brought about a complete reimagining of Family Faith Formation (formerly known as Religious Education) it's taken almost all my attention to create a new program nearly from scratch. If you have younger children, you can learn about it here.

Be assured I've kept you all in prayer and haven't forgotten you! As of this moment, the bishop will still be here at St. Andrew for

CONFIRMATION on Monday, October 26, 2020

(yes, just a couple of months away!).  24 hours before we will have

Confirmation Practice on Sunday, October 25 at 6:00pm in the Church.

Thus, to get ready for that celebration, we have some work to do.

THE CALENDAR

Click here to read and make note of the calendar items leading to Confirmation.

DEADLINE: If you do not meet the deadlines listed below, your name will be removed from the 2020 list and added to those beginning again in November for Confirmation 2021.

Time is running out, my friends! I need to send the list of Saint Names to the Bishop's office before the end of September. I need to have sponsor eligibility established before you will be considered approved for Confirmation this year. Thus, make sure you have met the minimum requirements below to continue in this year's group.

THE DECISION

This year has brought us unprecedented challenges and the timing of circumstances has resulted in a Confirmation preperation that has been and will be mostly online and at a distance. Obviously this process is not our ideal or preferred but was made necessary. Furthermore, these next two months will bring a return to high school for these candidates in a new and different way, with students either online or in person with masks and distancing and limited interactions. Given the stress and strain of these adjustments, combined with the less than ideal circumstances of preparation for this year, we completely understand and respect your right to postpone your candidate's reception of this sacrament at this time. If you would prefer to wait until next year (enrolling your candidate in the next group - Confirmation 2021) please just notify us as soon as possible by emailing Jerry at [email protected] or by calling the Faith Formation Office at 239.574.2411. As our program for next year will be administered differently than for this year, we will ask that all candidates postponing begin again with Part 1 of preparation that will start in November. If you'd like to discuss this matter in further detail, email or call Jerry to set up a time to talk.

TO DO #1: PAY THE FEE - DUE ASAP

Click here to to pay for 2020 Confirmation.

PLEASE NOTE: This link is ONLY for those families whose candidate was already in preparation last spring. Do NOT use this link if your child is new

TO DO #2: PAPERWORK - DUE BY SUNDAY, SEPT 20
If I have not received paperwork from you by Sunday, you will be removed from 2020 Confirmation and asked to begin again with the 2021 group.

The following forms need to be completed and returned as soon as possible:
  • Saint Name Form
  • Sponsor Form
  • Sponsor Eligibility Document*
  • Robe Form
Click here to access a complete set of these forms.

Once you have completed any form, you can scan/photograph it and email it to me ([email protected]) or drop it off in our office (Religious Education in the school building Monday-Thursday 10a - 4p).

Many of you have already turned in many of these forms. Thank you!

* A Sponsor Eligibility Document is provided by the sponsor's parish. In order for a sponsor to qualify, they must be a fully initiated (received Confirmation) Catholic who practices their faith in a parish (attends Sunday Mass maintaining an actively registered parishioner status) and whose parish is willing to certify that eligibility by providing us a document signed by a priest of the sponsor's Catholic parish. If providing such documentation poses a challenge, please contact [email protected] to set up a time to talk.

TO DO #3: CALLED TO MERCY - ENROLL BY SUNDAY, SEPT 20
If you have not at least enrolled in this curriculum by Sunday (even if you haven't yet done any of the modules, you must create your username and password), you will be removed from 2020 Confirmation and asked to begin again with the 2021 group.

For a few years now we have been using St. Mary's Press Called to Mercy as content for our Part Two (in the Fall). It is a completely online interactive program.

You must create for yourself a log in by following these instructions:

Enrollment Instructions:
  1. Go to http://mlearn.smp.org/enroll
  2. Your Section Code:
    gptsn7yg (all letters are lowercase)
  3. Fill in all the fields for parent and student information.
  4. Review and accept the terms.
  5. Click submit.
  6. Have your students bookmark http://mlearn.smp.org to log in.
Once you have enrolled, don't visit the enroll site again. Every year folks have issues with enrollment and then create two or three accounts for themselves. This causes issues as we have a limited number of spots. If you have any issues with passwords or the like, contact me.

TO DO #4: INTERVIEWS - SIGN UP BY SUNDAY, SEPT 20
If you have not used the links below to sign up for your two slots by Sunday, you will be removed from 2020 Confirmation and asked to begin again with the 2021 group.

TWO INTERVIEWS TOTAL:
ONE IN SEPTEMBER, ONE IN OCTOBER
updated: do the two with whoever you like!

Each candidate is required to sign up for TWO Confirmation Interviews:
  • one in September
  • one in October

The interviews will be with either Director of Faith Formation Mr. Jerry Harrington, Faith Formation Assistant Ms. Anne Spears, or Confirmation Catechist Ms. Isabel Vales. You can choose whatever combination works best for you: 2 with Jerry, 1 with Jerry and 1 with Anne, 2 with Isabel, whatever you prefer!

These interviews will be a half hour conversation about the candidate’s participation in our curriculum programs (we will have read your digital turn ins and your responses in Called to Mercy) and your readiness for Confirmation.

SEPTEMBER INTERVIEWS (sign up for ONE of these)

OCTOBER INTERVIEWS (sign up for ONE of these)

On Thursday (9/10) I updated this site to simplify this interview sign up process. If you had already signed up, most of those were transferred over to these new sign ups. If the slot you signed up for no longer exists, you will need to choose a new slot. If none of these slots work for you, please contact Jerry directly at [email protected]

CONCLUSION

If you've made it this far - thank you! I'm sorry to have to send so much all at once, but time flies when you're dealing with a pandemic. I hope you are all well. As always, any questions or concerns contact me at [email protected] or call the Faith Formation Office at 239.574.2411.
